Keyword rich content and linking are essential for a good ranking website.

But for webmasters, search engine optimization is not the only thing you need in order to have a high ranking site that converts (assuming you are selling something, which most people are.)

Here are a few other things you need to have a good site that converts...

1. Good graphic designs. This will help increase the interest in your site and conversion of the product or service you are offering. Even if you have a site full of rich written content, the layout and look are just as important.

2. Easy for surfers to use. If a surfer cannot find what they are looking for, get lost in popups or advertising, or cannot order in the way they wish, then your site is losing conversion. It is as simple as that. Remember to put phone number on your site! I know many people don't want their number online or their information, but if you plan on doing business online, you should be prepared to do business in everyway!

3. A good product or service. Just because you have a great site, a ton of traffic, and it is easy to use for surfers, doesn't mean it will sale. Just like any other marketing, if it isn't a product and service people want, then it won't sell. Find products or offer services that people want.
